Seachem PhosGuard is a high-performance chemical filtration media designed to remove phosphate (PO₄) and silicate (SiO₂) from both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Excess phosphate and silicate can lead to algae blooms, cloudy water, and negatively impact the health of aquatic life. PhosGuard’s unique bead-shaped structure ensures fast, efficient removal, helping maintain crystal-clear water and a healthy aquarium environment.
Rapid Phosphate & Silicate Removal: Quickly reduces phosphate and silicate levels, preventing algae outbreaks.
High Capacity & Efficiency: Beads have a large surface area for maximum absorption.
Safe for Freshwater & Saltwater: Effective in both environments, suitable for versatile aquarium setups.
Non-Leaching: Absorbed phosphates and silicates remain bound, ensuring long-lasting performance.
Aluminum-Based: Made from high-porosity aluminum oxide for strong phosphate removal, with caution in soft-coral reef tanks.
Placement: Use in canister filters, media reactors, hang-on-back filters, or media bags placed in high-flow areas.
Dosage:
Saltwater: 85 mL per 200 liters (50 gallons).
Freshwater: 85 mL per 400 liters (100 gallons).
Duration: Can start reducing phosphates within hours; leave in filter up to 4 days or until desired levels are reached.
Replacement: Replace when phosphate or silicate levels stop decreasing. Lifespan varies based on tank load.
Rinse Before Use: Rinse in freshwater to remove dust and improve water flow.
250 mL: Small tanks or short-term use.
500 mL: Standard size for moderate phosphate loads.
1 Liter: Large aquariums or heavy phosphate loads.
2 Liters & 4 Liters: Bulk options for very large tanks or multiple setups.
Monitor Phosphate Levels: Use a phosphate test kit to track effectiveness and determine replacement timing.
Use Caution with Sensitive Corals: Gradually add PhosGuard in reef tanks to avoid stressing soft-bodied corals.
Combine with Other Filtration Methods: For optimal results, use alongside mechanical and biological filtration to maintain a balanced aquarium environment.
