Seachem Denitrate

Introduction

Seachem denitrate is an economical, natural porous biological filtration media engineered to support both aerobic nitrification and anaerobic denitrification within the same material. Its unique pore distribution allows oxygen-rich processes to occur near the surface while enabling oxygen-poor, nitrate-reducing bacteria to thrive deep within the core. With a very high surface area, denitrate supports a dense population of beneficial bacteria responsible for breaking down nitrogenous waste. While it has limited nitrate-trapping capacity (similar to zeolites and synthetic resins), its primary nitrate-removal mechanism is biological anaerobic denitrification, making it most effective in low-flow filtration environments.
