Seachem De-Nitrate is a specialized filtration media designed to reduce nitrates (NO₃) in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Elevated nitrate levels can lead to algae blooms, poor water quality, and stress on fish and other aquatic organisms. De-Nitrate’s unique high-surface-area matrix promotes anaerobic bacteria growth, which converts nitrate into harmless nitrogen gas, effectively lowering nitrate concentrations and maintaining a healthy aquarium environment.
Efficient Nitrate Removal: Effectively reduces nitrates, helping prevent algae growth and maintain water quality.
Promotes Anaerobic Bacteria Growth: The porous structure encourages beneficial bacteria to convert nitrates into nitrogen gas through denitrification.
High Surface Area: Supports a thriving bacterial population, enhancing media efficiency.
Versatile Application: Suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
Long-Lasting: Remains effective for several months depending on tank conditions and nitrate levels.
Placement: Use in canister filters, fluidized reactors, or any filter providing good water flow. Can also be placed in a mesh bag for convenience.
Dosage: Start with ~100 mL (≈1/3 cup) per 100 liters (≈25 gallons) of aquarium water. Adjust as needed for tank conditions and nitrate levels.
Water Flow: Ensure slow water flow through the media to maximize contact time and denitrification efficiency.
Replacement: Monitor nitrate levels; add or replace media if nitrates rise or the media has been in use for several months.
250 mL: Small to medium tanks or trial use.
500 mL: Standard size for moderate aquariums.
1 Liter: Ideal for larger tanks or higher nitrate loads.
2 Liters & 4 Liters: Bulk options for large aquariums or aquaculture use.
Monitor Nitrate Levels: Regularly test water to ensure effectiveness and determine when to add or replace media.
Combine with Other Filtration Media: Use alongside mechanical and biological filters for comprehensive water quality management.
Avoid High Flow Rates: Excessive flow can inhibit anaerobic bacteria growth. Adjust flow for optimal denitrification.
Maintain Regularly: Conduct water changes and routine maintenance to complement the use of De-Nitrate.
